Shake hands? That is amazing. How fun! I would love to see that.

A while back I had four angoras. Yes, they are smarter than they let on. They look up at us all goof, but I know it is just an act. My main concern is a busy road near the pastures.

I am really hoping to get a good start with these two, and then be able to really get a good handle on the babes.

Thanks. We tried that. The past owners used grain to bring them in, so they are on to us. They pretty much know when it feed time and when it is an attempted bribe. We have only had these two for a week. I am trying to train them to come on command. They did better today.

Feed goats from a bucket, shake the bucket, they'll learn the sound of feed rattling in the bucket and follow.

homeschooling does not have to be expensive...it depends on what you're doing and where your getting your resources. *wink*

as of when i left cali, you also have an additional option not available to many outside of CA...the study-at-home charter schools. not officially homeschooling i know, but for us it was a compromise between differing views as well as economical concerns. at the time South Sutter (sscs.cc) was VERY easy to work with and had a fantastic, and growing, vendor list. a lot of your experience depends on your ES (educational specialist--or the certified teacher you report to) but we had a wonderful experience and know many that were similar.

here at home we utilize amblesideonline.org which is charlotte mason based and whose advisory committee tries to utilize free, or typically easily accessible, books and resources in their suggested planning/schedules. there are also, currently, a free online math curriculum that is better than anything i received in PS.

with the property that you now have there is much that can be accomplished with nature study and farm-to-table understandings. and getting plugged into the local homeschool community (Sac_Area_Info_Chat on yahoogroups is a great open, inclusive, diverse group from the general area) would open up opportunities for group events and used resources.

anyway....there's my mini-soapbox on the financials of homeschooling. hehehe. (says she who is not homeschooling this year *sigh*)

ooh, i'll have to get around to taking a pic of our wild grape a neighbor's kiddo discovered the fallen fruit of. tough, bitter skin. it was funny that ours was discovered a week or two after another neighbor (who's been on their property since 1999) discovered that they had wild grapes in abundance.

thanks for letting me chime in my own stuff from the opposite coast!! *lol*

we just have the obligatory faux rock that almost looks like a play-headstone. *lol* one day we too will have a well house and it will be insulated with a temperature-activated lightbulb so we never have to experience a frozen well-head again.

until then, it's wrapped in fender covers and shop rags under the 'RIP' to insulate it somewhat. knock on wood we haven't had any issues since our first winter in the house. but a girl can dream of greatness, can't she? (my 'greatness' dream is a self-sufficient micro-farm that is off-grid *grin*)
